TIME SPENT ON THE WATER IS A CHERISHED GIFT TO EVERYONE OF OUR STAFF, AND HAS BEEN FOR GENERATIONS. IT IS OUR ABSOLUTE DELIGHT TO OFFER YOU, YOUR FRIENDS, AND FAMILY MEMBERS A UNIQUE AND ENTERTAINING VIEW OF THESE MAGICAL ISLANDS FROM THE WATER. OUR NARRATED HISTORY AND WILDLIFE SIGHTSEEING TOURS BEGIN WHEN THOUSANDS OF GUALE INDIANS LIVED, TRAVELED, HUNTED, AND FISHED, ALONG THIS COASTLINE. FRENCH EXPLORERS ARRIVED IN THE 16TH CENTURY, BEFORE THE BRITISH, BUT IT WAS GENERAL JAMES EDWARD OGLETHORPE WHO NAMED JEKYLL ISLAND AFTER SIR JOSEPH JEKYLL. FOR A CENTURY, A FRENCH FAMILY OWNED IT, EVENTUALLY TURNING THE ISLAND INTO A HUNTING CLUB. IN 1886, THE ISLAND BECAME THE JEKYLL ISLAND CLUB, AN UBER-EXCLUSIVE HOLIDAY RESORT WITH FAMILIAR NAMES SUCH AS JOSEPH PULITZER, WILLIAM ROCKEFELLER, JP MORGAN, WILLIAM K VANDERBILT AND MARSHALL FIELD.
